CNFIS-FDI-2025-F-0154: Supporting academic excellence at Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca by consolidating, optimizing and managing research data in the context of Big Data and FAIR developments.
The FDI 2025 project aims to support research excellence at UBB through .
• Supporting key infrastructure and related human resources;
• Expanding/strengthening the use of research databases and repositories, supporting interdisciplinarity and interaction with the academic and socio-economic environment, in accordance with the principles of Open Science and FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), within the transition to Big Data;
• Integrating research data from UBB into the international open data circuit: increasing the adoption rate of data management tools (repositories, databases) in UBB and connecting them to international open data repositories;
• Promoting the visibility and increasing the impact of research data collection and management tools developed by UBB among third-party partners from the academic and socio-economic environment, in line with the UBB Research, Development and Innovation Strategy for the period 2025-2029 (supporting RDI activity in interdisciplinary areas and the transition to Open Science).

CNFIS-FDI-2024-F-0456: Institutional integration of good practices of accountability and transparency associated with Open Science to support excellent scientific research at Babeș-Bolyai University
The FDI 2024 project pursued the following objectives:
• Optimizing the institutional framework and streamlining the functioning of the network formed by the STAR-UBB Institute and the research centers of excellence associated with the Academic Schools of UBB by operationalizing the Open Science Strategy (OS) in terms of administrative support structures (e.g., establishing an Office dedicated to OS, advised by an independent forum of specialists formed by formalizing the Open Science Working Group (OSWG) formed within the previous FDI project);
• Implementing integrated management of Open Science (OS) and Citizen Science (CS) infrastructure, practices and projects as a strategic direction for research development in UBB, drafting and implementing institutional measures to achieve the objectives of the UBB OS Strategy (e.g., the 100% Platinum Open Access objective, the Responsible Open Access objective by discouraging pretentious or controversial publications, achieving targets regarding the percentage or number of researchers/public engaged in UBB OS projects/practices);
•Ensuring the proper functioning of the UBB’s infrastructure and publishing tools with major international relevance (Web of Science-listed journals) operating under Platinum Open Access regime;
•Integration of OS and CS tools developed by UBB into international networks and partnerships;
• Increasing the adoption rate and use of OS and CS tools developed by UBB;
• Promoting the visibility of the OS and CS tools developed by UBB.
CNFIS-FDI-2023-F-0214: Strengthening Open Science practices in scientific research of excellence at Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca
The FDI 2023 project aimed to strengthen institutional research capacity by expanding and institutionally structuring Open Science practices within the STAR-UBB Institute and the RDI centers associated with the Academic Schools of Science in UBB that carry out excellent research activities, with an emphasis on the generation, management and accessibility of Open Science data/information through:
• Supporting and developing “Open Science” tools at UBB, with the support of the UBB Open Science Working Group (GLD) established within the FDI 2022 project and adopting specific regulations/regulations/policy documents
• Generation and organization of specific OS infrastructure/architecture elements – data repository, online data collection and management platforms targeted at high-impact scientific research (including the Citizen Science component).
