Open Data / Databases

Research activity at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca has generated numerous data sets over the years, currently spread across various international repositories, with different access models. The university also hosts databases built on its own, the result of various research projects.
The objectives of the Open Data / Databases team are:
– to create an institutional tool for recording the data sets and keep track of the databases created under the aegis of UBB;
– to transfer as much of them as possible to the institutional repository;
– to manage the repository and to ensure its interconnection with major European repositories.

Open Access publication

Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca promotes the open access publishing model of periodicals (the Studia UBB collection and the other journals of the University) and books (Cluj University Press Publishing House). The assumed objective is to implement the Diamond / Platinum Open Access model, thus ensuring the dissemination of research results without involving additional costs for authors or readers.
The Open Access Publishing Team of the Office for Open Science has the following objectives:
– to support the transition to the Platinum / Diamond Open Access model of UBB publications;
– to ensure the widest possible dissemination of UBB’s open access scientific publications;
– to promote information related to Open Access publishing within the UBB community.

Citizen Science

Citizen Science is a novelty for the Romanian research environment and Babeș-Bolyai University has also supported the connection with international developments in this field. The Citizen Science Team of the Office for Open Science, in collaboration with msg Romania, has developed the first national platform dedicated to Citizen Science (citizenscience.openscience.ubbcluj.ro).
The platform allows:
– communication between UBB researchers and citizens and attracting the latter to institutional projects;
– citizens launching research project proposals with an impact on the socio-economic environment;
– researchers from outside UBB to develop science projects with citizens;
The development of the platform was supported through the following projects:
– CNFIS-FDI-2022-F-0126: Promoting and supporting Open Science practices in research excellence at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca;
– CNFIS-FDI-2023-F-0214: Strengthening Open Science practices in scientific research of excellence at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca;
– CNFIS-FDI-2024-F-0456: Institutional integration of good practices of accountability and transparency associated with Open Science to support excellent scientific research at Babeș-Bolyai University.

Intellectual property

Academic Communication

Open Science involves communication, collaboration, and the circulation of expertise and experiences, both internationally and nationally.
The Academic Communication Team of the Office for Open Science has the following objectives:
– to promote UBB initiatives and results in the field of Open Science in external and internal academic environments, including by organizing dedicated scientific events;
– to initiate collaborations, to attract specialists and expertise (know-how) with the aim of developing Open Science tools and practices at UBB;
– to support efforts initiated by national agencies and university and research institutions to implement Open Science in the national scientific environment.

Public Communication

One of the important aspects of Open Science is communication outside of academia and the popularization of research results in a form accessible to the public. The Public Communication Team of the Open Science Office has as its main objective to support science communication and popularization activities among the UBB community and to promote the knowledge generated in our university among the general public.

Projects

The Projects Team has the following objectives:
– to promote in UBB of national and international project competitions specifically dedicated to Open Science and associated themes;
– to support applications from UBB community members to such projects;
– to support the implementation of Open Science projects in UBB
